Help! There is no power and I cannot get into my garage.

Here in Orlando as well as throughout the State of Florida we receive a lot of calls for garage door service and repair. A call we have been receiving a lot more of here lately due to the increased storm activity this summer, is….

”HELP…The power is out at my house and my remotes won’t work! Can you please send out a technician to open my garage door for me??”

As much as we would love to help them it is impossible for us to open your garage door if there is no power.

Living in Florida the chances of losing power at least once during hurricane season is very likely. Some years certain areas may lose power 2 or 3 times. We always recommend upgrading older garage door openers to LiftMaster 8550 with battery back-up. The battery back-up will work up to 20 times before having to be recharged.

Liftmaster Garage Door OpenerWhen you live in Florida with all the afternoon storms, tropical storms and possible hurricanes this really is a great investment. For example, lets say the power goes off momentarily as you are pulling into the driveway, who wants to sit in their car waiting for the electricity to come back on. Or have to get out in the rain and enter through the front door. Only to find the power back on in an hour. Not us! Had you been equipped with a battery back up operator your garage door would still be functional.

The 8550 also has many other features. It has built in MyQ technology. This allows you to operate your garage door or turn on & off your house lights from anywhere with the convenience of your smartphone or computer. The 8550 also uses a new code every time the remote is used. This is the ultimate protection from code theft and keeping you and your family safe.

This makes total sense! there are often times when the power goes out during a bad storm and we are on our way home, the last thing we want to do is come home to no power and not be able to get into the garage. Great BLOG!

  • Susan says:

It’s such a great product because you can program everything from the wall button. No more climbing on ladders!

  • Cindy says:

The 8550 is an extremely quiet, smooth running garage door opener and it comes with a
life time warranty on the motor and the belt.

  • Debbie says:

We had this installed because we worry about the weather here in Florida. Well last night we came home to no power but did not know it till we walked in the house because we were still able to use our Garage Door Opener. Love this motor

  • Dawn says:

Great advise–especially since we have frequent Florida afternoon showers!

  • Stuart says:

My door is heavy and I am no spring chicken, so I am happy knowing that even in a power outage I am able to get into my home and not have to lift my door manually. I especially love the lock out button on the wallstation for added protection when I am on vacation.

  • Donna says:

I dont know about you but we use our garage to enter the house. I dont even know where my house keys are? So if I were to be locked out due to power then I would be an unhappy camper if I couldnt get in my house.

I have 2 small kids and if it is storming outside and i can’t pull my car into the garage to get my kids out or even groceries. I dont know what i would do. I love my battery back up i never have to worry about it. I would suggest it to any of my friends and family..

Last night I wished I had an 8850 Liftmaster opener! Storms were super strong in Cape Coral and my whole neighborhood was out of power. I, like most people, am so dependant on my garage door to enter the house…I cant remember the last time I used the front door. By the time I reached the front door I was soaked! I think its time to upgrade to the 8550 Liftmaster!

The Liftmaster 8580 operator with battery backup is a wonderful operator and worth the investment.

  • Mark Hankins says:

Word of the day, “Convenience” Went to the store last night and upon returning the power was out. We were having one of our Famous Florida thunderstorms. No way to avoid getting out in the pouring rain with the groceries. If I had the LiftMaster 8550 belt drive garage door opener with Battery back up, I would have been able to open my door and drive into the garage without being drenched. With the onvenience and reliability of the 8550, I will make sure that this will be my next garage door opener.

  • Tom Ernst says:

It is a very good opener and it is also a great safety device when the power is out you can safely open your garage door and get your familyout of your home.

  • John Dumont says:

This unit saves the day when you need it most. The peace of mind knowing you are prepared and able to get out easily and on time is a great thing

  • Dave says:

Peace of mind. My elderly neighbors were very concerned of being “trapped” in their home if a medical emergency arose and the power was out. This was a simple choice. The battery back up is worth its weight in gold.

  • Shirley says:

I love Modern Technology, This opener is the perfect example with the MyQ Technology and Battery Back-up.

  • Michelle LoCastro says:

I can imagine how scary that would be to have no power and feel trapped. Having a battery backup is something that is definitely worth the investment even if you only did use it once.
