Most manufacturers of automobiles are including a convenient way to access your garage door, without the responsibility of keeping up with a remote. Each vehicle will differ by make and model but are relatively similar in the manner in which they function. The two most common brands are Lear Car2U and Homelink. Each of these manufacturers have a different method of programming and necessary steps to complete the programming. Having the piece of mind that you have a backup, or secondary option at times is a real sense of relief. Have you ever pulled up to the garage in the middle of a thunderstorm only to find out the batteries in your remote were dead? Eliminate that worry if your vehicle has the option for you to do so!
Here are the steps for programming your vehicle:
Where? The Lear Car2U or Homelink system is typically located on the rear view mirror, the flip down visor, or somewhere generally in the overhead area of the front seats of the vehicle. There could be up to 3 buttons as options for programming. Each button can be programmed to separate units, allowing multiple points of access inside of your vehicle without the extra transmitters.
Not every Vehicle is compatible. This will differ by the year in which your vehicle was manufactured, and the model of opener you are attempting to program. There are cases in which a repeater will be necessary to allow the vehicle to communicate with the unit.
Repeater. A repeater is an external device that will provide compatibility line of communication between a vehicle and unit that in other wards would not be able to communicate.
How to Program. Each vehicle should have step by step directions in the owner’s manual of the vehicle that will direct you through the programming manual. It is imperative that we refer to the vehicle first for instructions, then if issues with following the programming manual, the next step would be to contact your garage door opener manufacturer customer service line or local installation company.
